HCE has the capability of complete concrete, soils, aggregate, and bituminous hot mix testing. Since HCE performs most tests in their own laboratory, this enables them to respond to client needs for rapid results in special situations.Scope of Laboratory ServicesConcrete: Concrete Mix Designs, Concrete Cylinder Tests using Sulphur Mortar Caps or Unbonded Caps, Flexural Strength Beam Testing, Organic Impurities in Fine Aggregate, Strength of Concrete Cores. Aggregate: Sieve Analyses, Los Angeles Abrasion, Durability (AASHTO T-210), Sodium Sulfate Soundness, Accelerated Weathering (DMSO), Specific Gravity including Absorption, Flat & Elongated Particles, Fine Aggregate Angularity, Sample Crushing, Plastic Fines (Sand Equivalent). Concrete:HCE can provide on-site inspection and testing services for concrete placement on your project to help insure quality and compliance with project specifications. Typical services include pre-concrete placement inspection, slump and air tests during placement, as well as casting concrete compressive strength specimens for quality control. Our full service laboratory is equipped to cure and compressive strength test concrete cylinders. |

Hot Mix Asphalt:Well versed in hot mix asphalt quality control testing and required test procedures, HCE performs Marshall and Superpave asphalt testing. HCE also participates in an AASHTO accreditation program for bituminous hot mix asphalt. Please see the accreditation/certification tab above for more information. By utilizing a comprehensive testing program including but not limited to: California Bearing Ratios (CBR), additive testing, retention tests, and fine fraction analysis, HCE can offer techniques that increase the life of gravel roads by decreasing washboarding, raveling, rutting, rock loss, and fugitive dust.

Clients are assured of quality with AASHTO Accreditation Program. Holman Consulting Engineers (HCE) assures clients of the best service and is accredited in Hot Mix Asphalt (ASTM D3666).
In order to maintain accreditation status, HCE is required to undergo routine on-site assessments, monitor procedural and quality systems and to participate in proficiency sample programs for Bituminous Hot Mix.
HCE staff have current American Concrete Institute (ACI) and Western Alliance for Quality Transportation Construction (WAQTC) certification for Concrete Field Testing (Technician - Grade 1), aggregate testing, and hot mix asphalt testing.
